That's what I shouted out loud when I came to the site yesterday. I even clicked through to verify that the ad asking me to give money to Republican nutcase Pat Toomey was real. Talk about incongruous; check out the photo:
Of course, it was all because I've been writing diaries about the PA-Sen race for several days now, and in so doing have been visiting unsavory websites, like Pat Toomey's. (That link is not really to his website, but rather to a spoof put up by the Sestak camp.)
So now my dKos page is asking me to give a crazy Republican money. I hope you all appreciate the irony and my sacrifice. :-)
Follow me after the fold for your daily dose of Sestak is awesome and Toomey is decidedly not.
This is diary #4 (click to see #3, #2, or #1)
I'm a little short on time today, and my son is apparently taking a shorter nap than usual, so I'll be (most unusually) brief --- Obama came to town yesterday and boosted Sestak's funds by about 50%, according to Politico, putting him a mere $1.6M behind Toomey (who had no bruising primary battle) and hopefully injected some momentum into this race.
Despite supporting Specter in the primary, Obama had nothing but good things to say about Sestak and he's right when he said that the choice couldn't be clearer. The Politico article is a really good write-up of the event and has a nice Reuters photo.
Obama ticked off his record on the economy, saying that the economy has seen "eight consecutive months of job growth," and said that he needs partners like Sestak fighting in Washington. --- Washington Post
It's easy to be ahead in the polls when your cash-flush campaign and Republican attack machine is going full-tilt all summer. But Sestak points out that he's never been this close this far out in an election before. Now is when it matters. Now is when the rubber starts to hit the road. Now is when we need to make the media narrative on this one change.
So---- help.
And if you’re a Pennsylvanian, for goodness sakes, make it a point to talk to your neighbors about this race.
Here are some things about Sestak you need to know, in one sentence: He’s been a true progressive on issues from the stimulus, to health care, and is a true champion of the environment.
Here are some things about Toomey you really should know too:
• He has a 0% rating from NARAL (meaning he’s anti-choice) and
• Also has a 0% from the League of Conservation Voters indicating he’s anti-environment (from Toomey: "There's no question that the Earth's surface temperature has increased," he said in a statement. "There is much debate in the scientific community as to the precise sources of global warming." --- so you can guess where his policies would lead. The man supported Bush-Cheney energy policies 100% though.
• Anti-senior, anti-labor… at what point does he just become anti-American?
And yes, Toomey really did say that corporations should pay no taxes whatsoever.
Donate (I set up a new ActBlue page, it seems to me this series ought to be able to get at least 50 contributors - Toomey's raised twice what Sestak has - and please forward the link to your like-minded friends.)
Canvass or Call --- as outlined above, getting out the vote is critical. You can also go to their contact us page --- they just opened four new offices!
Thank you.
So, our record for a diary in this series is 18 comments -- can we beat that?
