An equinox occurs twice a year, when the tilt of the Earth's axis is inclined neither away from nor towards the Sun, the Sun being vertically above a point on the Equator. The term equinox can also be used in a broader sense, meaning the date when such a passage happens. The name "equinox" is derived from the Latin aequus (equal) and nox (night), because around the equinox, the night and day are approximately equally long. It may be better understood to mean that latitudes +L and -L north and south of the equator experience nights of equal length.
In 2010, the autumnal equinox arrives on September 22 at 14:09 UTC which is 11:09 PM EDT or a few short hours from now.
And what does all this geeky stuff mean?....
Fall is Here!!
When last we visited Basement Cat and Ceiling Cat they were locked in mortal combat over the Light. Basement Cat prevailed and the light slowly started leaving.
We have reached the point where Ceiling Cat and Basement Cat are equals and we ask the question: what happens next?
Of course, with this being Woozle Wednesday we have to change things out just a bit.
One moment...consultation required.
Check back after naps.
This may be why woozles do not make good world dominators.
.
They don’t like to be put in charge:
.
Hey, Ceiling Dog...we need your attention here!!
.
We are starting to get an idea why we use ceiling cats for these.
When given the chance for world domination, dogs seem to be ... distracted.
.
.
Which makes it all too easy for this to happen:
Nor is the light...for now.
The autumnal equinox or Mabon is one of the eight pagan festivals or "sabbats" from the Wheel of the Year. It is a "quarter day" along with the solstices and the vernal equinox. The holiday of Autumn Equinox, Mabon, or the Feast of the Ingathering is a ritual of thanksgiving for the fruits of the earth and a recognition of the need to share them to secure the blessings of the Goddess during the winter months. To all my pagan friends, "Have a fruitful, blessed Mabon!"
Fall is here. The days will continue getting shorter. But the next holiday is about more light and more hope.
Happy Autumnal Equinox and fist bumps!!
