I became concerned about more than the candidates on November's ballot when I received a copy of the Ballot Propositions for the Arizona General Election. You can go to the website http://www.azsos.gov if you did not receive the pamphlet in the mail.
You can also register to vote, or request an early ballot by mail. Voter registration ends on October 3rd . First time requests for permanent early voting begins on October 7th, ending on October 22nd.
My take on the AZ Propositions below the fold.
There is only one Ballot Proposal that was not submitted by the Republican Tea Party controlled Arizona Legislature. Prop 203, use of medical marijuana, if you want this proposition to fail, don’t vote.
Prop 106 is intended to nullify the new Federal health care law. If the Republican Tea Party wins on this one, the health insurance industry will be dancing in the streets.
If you want a repeal of coverage for children with pre-existing conditions, lifetime dollar caps, and insurers continuing to cancel policies retroactively for frivolous reasons when people get very sick, then don’t cast your early ballot, or at the polls.
Prop 107, if passed, will end anti-discriminatory protection for women and minorities. According to Phoenix Mayor, Phil Gordon, Prop 107 would eliminate programs that support teen parents, domestic violence victims, and young people of color who need help with basic needs in order to attend school. If you don’t care, then don’t vote.
Prop 109, if passed, will remove all protections for wildlife, fish and endangered species. Hunters and Fishermen will be given the constitutional right to hunt whatever they want, whenever they want. Again, if you don’t care, don’t vote.
Prop 113, is worded very deceptively as "related to the right to vote a secret ballot". Martin Murphy, President, Arizona AFL-CIO says this ballot measure is being used to promote the interests of National Chambers of Commerce, is a publicity stunt, and is unnecessary. Others say it is intended to maintain the control of forming a union in the hands of the employer, status quo in a right to work state. You still don’t care, don’t vote.
Prop 302 will eliminate the Early Childhood Development and Education, and the Health Board that was created by voter initiative in 2006. All funds would be transferred to the General Fund where our Republican Tea Party controlled government could find better use for the funds.
I have not listed all the Propositions. If you want more information, including comments from those who support, or oppose , go to the website listed above, or read the informational pamphlet you received.
I have sent this diary to my friends, family and like minded acquaintances. I care, and I vote.
