A little later today than I might've hoped, but here's the latest installment in the Support Sestak diary series!
So, as you may know, last week the Sestak camp set up a great spoof website for opponent and local Republican nutcase Pat Toomey. I thought it was well done, though worried that they might catch a little flack for so accurately representing Toomey's views in such a fashion.
Little was I aware that Toomey started this off --- by buying up joesestak.org, putting in an animated caricature of Sestak and claiming he's "got a lot to learn."
Ah, what I'm sure Toomey could teach him about the ways of Wall Street and how to not care at all about fairness or regular Americans.
Well, yesterday, Sestak was on the CBS Unplugged to talk about the situation and why he's better than Toomey. Video and commentary ---and ways you can help propel our candidate to the Senate-- after the fold.
Here's the video - the part you want starts near the 12 minute mark:
Honestly, I think Congressman Sestak could have done a little better in this interview - he seems to try to get back to his talking points at all costs rather than going more off-the-cuff, which I think is more appropriate, since he is on a webcam and all.
But, as imperfect as he seems, contrast with this video of Pat Toomey (h/t GreenPA from the comments in the last diary) talking about hate crimes and the poor widdle bigots who commit them:
Hm, between shamelessly mocking a Navy Admiral on the web, and not at all understanding the argument that hate crimes are worse than normal crimes because they are directed at entire groups of people and not just the person who directly suffers, maybe Toomey can teach Sestak about questionable morals and judgement, too.
As ridiculous as it sounds, with competition like this --- Sestak can't win this without your help.
Here again, are the important to-do items:
- Donate (I set up a new ActBlue page, it seems to me this series ought to be able to get at least 50 contributors - my email yesterday actually got us several new donors!)
- Canvass or Call --- getting out the vote is critical. You can also go to their contact us page --- they just opened four new offices!
- Send email (link takes you to the diary yesterday with a template) or call or talk in person with those you know in Pennsylvania about this race
- And, if you are in Pennsylvania, plan to vote, and bring as many people with you as possible.
Comments were on a steady upswing until yesterday when I foolishly posted at noon --- let's see if we can do better than our average of 14 comments. Let me know what you're doing and your interest in the race! And, if you can spare a rec, I'll take that too!
