Welcome to Fry'd Daze - What is it.... Well, it is a long running diary series that is an Open Thread on issues around the Middle East. Anyhow, this is week 2.38
I don't want this to be a flame forum, Rather something we can exchange ideas about I/P and/or issues about the Middle East.
What I really want to try to do this on Fry'd Daze as a way to get people to talk about whatever comes into their heads regarding this subject... an open forum where people can meet and talk
HAPPY SUKKOT!!! - as a friend of mine on Facebook says: It is time to stop and smell the Etrog.
Before we begin I want to share some info. from J Street. The founder of J Street and then one of my favorite columnists from Haaretz are coming to the Bay Area. J Street's Founder and President Jeremy Ben-Ami will be in Berkeley on 10/18 in the evening. And then on 10/27 Bradley Burston will be either in San Rafael (1:30 pm or in SF 7:30 pm) for a discussion on: Pro-Mideast in America: Getting Past 'Pro-Israel' and 'Pro-Palestine' Info. is here at: http://action.jstreet.org/...
Ok, with that let's get to our stories: Obama: Ahmadinejad's comments on 9/11 attacks 'hateful' and 'inexcusable'
Once again President Obama gets it right.
....Obama called Ahmadinejad’s remarks "offensive", "hateful" and "inexcusable".
"Particularly for him to make the statement here in Manhattan, just a little north of Ground Zero, where families lost their loved ones, people of all faiths, all ethnicities who see this as the seminal tragedy of this generation, for him to make a statement like that was inexcusable," Obama said.
Shortly after Ahmadinejad’s speech at the UN that many Western delegations walked out on, Mark Kornblau, the spokesman of the United States Mission to the UN, said in a statement: "Rather than representing the aspirations and goodwill of the Iranian people, Mr. Ahmadinejad has yet again chosen to spout vile conspiracy theories and anti-Semitic slurs that are as abhorrent and delusional as they are predictable."
I agree with this whole heartedly... To come to NY and make those comments.... OOOOOKKKKAAAAYYYYYY.
Our second story is from
Maan News: Jerusalem remains on lockdown after clashes Because of Silwan Israel seems to be determined to destroy the Peace Process.
JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Checkpoints were erected at the entrances to several Jerusalem neighborhoods on Friday, with soldiers preventing residents from leaving the areas in several cases, witnesses said.
Hundreds of police and border officers were deployed around the Old City, with 3,000 in total across East Jerusalem, officials estimated.
Israeli Police Commander in Chief Dudi Cohen reportedly decided to maintain the state of alert declared Friday morning in the city, extending it through the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.
The previous week during the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, residents of the Palestinian neighborhoods of Jerusalem were also barred from moving from one area to another by car or walking through major roads.
******************************And BREAKING***************************** Apparently someone has been killed with live ammo. in Bi'lin and an Israeli Border Guard has been hurt in Jerusalem
If I can make a comment, from all I am seeing it seems that Peace process is either dead or dying. Most of this, I put on the Israelis. Their support for the settlers in Silwan and Sheikh Jarrah. Their continued settlement building and expansion go beyond what is acceptable. The talks are not officially dead but I cannot imagine that on the 9/30/10 they will not be. This is simply sad.
This is it for this week.
Shalom.
