About a week ago, both Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert announced that they each planned to hold a rally on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on October 30th; in Jon's case, it's his Rally To Restore Sanity, while in Stephen's case, it's his Keep Fear Alive rally. While I highly appreciate the yeoman's work both comedians have done in highlighting the lunacy of the right wing for the past ten years, and in Stephen's case his impassioned testimony on behalf of migrant farm workers, I hate to be a wet blanket, but they have inadvertently done a disservice to progressives everywhere.
After Stewart and Colbert announced that they were holding competing rallies in Washington, the mainstream media naturally jumped in and gave them much publicity. And while I'm sure Jon and Stephen are sincere in their efforts, they have taken all of the media air away from the really important rally which is happening this weekend. This is the rally for working people who are marching for more jobs, better education, and a fair shake from the Wall Street bankers. While nearly all the media outlets have been talking about Jon and Stephen's rallies, outside of Ed Schultz, there has been virtually no coverage of the upcoming March on Washington this weekend.
Don't let this march go unnoticed! Call or email your local media outlets as well as the national ones and let your voice be heard. And if you need any more information on how to get there or how you can support the working people at the rally this weekend, you can go to this thread.
