For all the supposed energy and big mo of the Tea Party, they are not welcome everywhere. Consider IL-10, one of the few democratic leaning districts currently held by a Repblican. This district is one of our best chances for a Democratic pick-up by Kossack favorite Dan Seals.
Republican Mark Kirk, serial embellisher, stayed in this seat for years by effectively painting himself as a moderate. He's moved on to run for Senate, and Republican candidate Bob Dold is hoping to wear that Moderate mantle to keep that open seat in the (R) column.
So much so, that according to the Daily Herald the Dold campaign asked a a Tea Party group to give Dold a lower rating in its Voter Guide:
During a meeting with Daily Herald editors and reporters on Friday, Dold acknowledged someone with his campaign told the group he is a moderate, but he denied asking for a low ranking.
The campaign representative later was identified as campaign manager Kelley Folino. On Monday, Patriots member Joan Seifert, who spoke with Folino about the guide, confirmed Folino didn't want Dold to be rated highly by the group.
"They wanted to be sure he wasn't perceived as a conservative, and I was more than happy to oblige that," said Seifert, of Grayslake
.
Conservative Dold has been desperate to crowbar himself into a truly swing district. He is endorsed by Illinois Federation for Right to Life yet insists that he is Pro-Choice. He supports Rep Paul Ryan's plan to privatize Social Security. He has received endorsments from Grover Norquist...and Dan Quayle,
This district has in th:e past been bamboozled by Mark Kirk's fantasy of being a moderate. Bob Dold is trying that act too, but in the immortal words of George W. Bush:
"Fool me once..fool me ...can't get fooled again!"
