As someone who lives outside of VA, maybe I'm not the best person to write this diary, but I believe this candidate deserves a lot of support so I wanted to do whatever I could to help raise awareness. I grew up in NC, so VA is my northern neighbor, and I grew up about 5 minutes away from the border line, so I've always felt a little connection, and I have family there as well.
So to start, here is the campaign website:
http://www.krystalballforcongress.com/
And to give you a sense of who she is facing off against, here is a quote from her GOP opponent:
As a member of the Values Action Team, I will continue to support pro-life, pro-family legislation. I will work in defense of parental rights, religious liberty, and the definition of marriage as a union between one man and one woman. Furthermore, I support efforts to curb internet pornography and obscenity.
More on her opponent:
And for some balance, here is a video on Krystal:
One section of her website I'm particularly excited to see, in light of a VA with a bigoted governor, is this:
Equality
Krystal supports full LGBT Equality. She does not believe it is the Federal government’s job to discriminate.
Krystal believes we should honor the commitment of those serving in the military regardless of sexual orientation, and that we should follow the lead of our military leaders and repeal "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell." Krystal also supports the repeal of DOMA.
That position has earned her some flack, such as this push poll:
http://pamshouseblend.com/...
First of all, the lead-in statement is for the caller to tell the resident the questions are about "Krystal Ball's obsession" regarding support for "special rights" for the LGBT community. And then the caller is asked this (I sh*t you not):
"Krystal Ball has a strange infatuation with gays and lesbians. It makes one wonder what is in her past."
So I hope all this has given you an introductory picture to Krystal Ball, what she is up against, and why she deserves to win. No diary is complete of course without an actionable item. Her latest facebook status was asking for help in getting a debate. If anyone lives in VA, or knows someone wh olives there, consider making this call:
We are asking Rob Wittman to come toe to toe with me and debate the real issues that are the core concerns to the people of the first district. Will you call Rob Wittman at (804) 493-0508 and ask him to stop ducking the people of the first congressional district?
