John Cole over at Balloon Juice is rallying his troops for passage of the bill and we should join him.
We cannot let the HCR bill die just because of Brown. There is simply too much at stake, not the least of which is the rest of Obama's agenda. A win now carries momentum to future wins.
We can't get the regulatory controls passed through reconciliation and they are just as important as what we can get through reconciliation.
I think this is also imperative to pass the bill precisely because it is the progressive bloc of the House that is keeping it from passing - the last thing anybody needs is the progressive caucus to be painted as having killed HCR. Not really going to engender future support.
Update with some Krugman love:
Do the Right Thing
A message to House Democrats: This is your moment of truth. You can do the right thing and pass the Senate health care bill. Or you can look for an easy way out, make excuses and fail the test of history.
Tuesday’s Republican victory in the Massachusetts special election means that Democrats can’t send a modified health care bill back to the Senate. That’s a shame because the bill that would have emerged from House-Senate negotiations would have been better than the bill the Senate has already passed. But the Senate bill is much, much better than nothing. And all that has to happen to make it law is for the House to pass the same bill, and send it to President Obama’s desk.
Please call your reps and Pelosi and tell them to get this done. Find a workable compromise with the Senate for reconciliation fixes and PASS THE BILL.
Also please call Reid and your Senators, especially on the Finance Committee, where all reconciliation starts. Tell them to get the 51 (or at least 50) votes to appease the House and !@#$%& do this.
We must outcall the teabaggers!
