When you're out of the States, you rely on foreign coverage and, While the Guardian was impeccable during the run up to the Iraq war, I have to question the veracity of this headline:
Donald Trump considers running for president
Of course he floated his bid on FOX, which should tell you something about his character, but even so, do you categorise him as a wingnut, a Teabagger, a mainstream corporate GOP hack, or the ghost of Ross Perot, in which case he could be considered a closet Democrat?
Some of the juicier quotes form their political blog article:
"I'd love not [to run]," he said. But he added: "Somebody has to do something. We are losing this country."
Who is losing the country? Trump's goodhair cohorts? Does this mean Governor Rick Perry of Texas might be in danger?
Trump also refused to rule out joining the Tea Party movement, the Republican offshoot that some experts believe could emerge as a third party.
"I am a Republican, but have great respect for what the Tea Party has done because they have brought to light what's going on," he said. "I mean, we have trillion-dollar deficits … The country is going bankrupt, let's face it."
And I thought the Teabaggers were all about racism. Fiscal conservatism? who knew?
And:
As well as appearing on The Apprentice, Trump hosts The Fabulous World of Golf on the Golf Channel.
Well that settles it: Trump is a mainline Republican, Teabagger wannabe, with a little wingnut on the side. Here's hoping he does throw his hat in the ring and make it a Perotista quadrifecta.
