RKBA is a DKos group of second amendment supporters who also have progressive and liberal values. We don't think that being a liberal means one has to be anti-gun. Some of us are extreme in our second amendment views (no licensing, no restrictions on small arms) and some of us are more moderate (licensing, restrictions on small arms.) Moderate or extreme, we hold one common belief: more gun control equals lost elections. We don't want a repeat of 1994. We are an inclusive group: if you see the Second Amendment as safeguarding our right to keep and bear arms individually, then come join us in our conversation. If you are against the right to keep and bear arms, come join our conversation. We look forward to seeing you, as long as you engage in a civil discussion. RKBA stands for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
ban nock:
the army's newest scariest black gun is a bolt action Remington in a 300 Winchester Magnum, which is a fairly common hunting round and the bolt action, well, is how shall we say it, not your typical spray and pray type rifle. Photo looks scary enough with pistol grip and suppressor and being black and all. My concern is that bolt actions might soon be labeled guns designed just to kill people, oh noez!

Won't someone PLEASE think of the children's?
If we teach our kids violence is an appropriate response to violence, we'll just end up with more B movie actors & less Idealist's like Dennis Kucinich. Here's a few assault weapons loving democrats who not only have the GALL to run in republican majority districts, but the Cojones to WIN. Vote/donate accordingly.

"Loaded" Guns actually LEGAL in BARS
The usual hysteria...
a technology consultant, is one of the state’s nearly 300,000 handgun permit holders who have recently seen their rights greatly expanded by a new law — one of the nation’s first — that allows them to carry loaded firearms into bars and restaurants that serve alcohol. “If someone’s sticking a gun in my face, I’m not relying on their charity to keep me alive,” said Mr. Ringenberg, 30, who said he carries the gun for personal protection when he is not at work. Gun rights advocates like Mr. Ringenberg may applaud the new law, but many customers, waiters and restaurateurs here are dismayed by the decision.
Tennessee is one of four states, along with Arizona, Georgia and Virginia, that recently enacted laws explicitly allowing loaded guns in bars. (Eighteen other states allow weapons in restaurants that serve alcohol.) The new measures in Tennessee and the three other states come after two landmark Supreme Court rulings that citizens have an individual right — not just in connection with a well-regulated militia — to keep a loaded handgun for home defense....The rulings, which overturned handgun bans in Washington and Chicago, have strengthened the stance of gun rights advocates nationwide. More than 250 lawsuits now challenge various gun laws....The new laws have also brought to light the status of 20 other states — New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts among them — that do not address the question, appearing by default to allow those with permits to carry guns into establishments that serve alcohol.
This NY times article is noteworthy for whats left out. 1) that Permit holders are not allowed to drink any alcoholic beverages while carrying a weapon.2) Theres no increase in bar shooting in the 4 states that allow 'guns in bars'. The NY times gives the impression that ALL DRUNKS will now be armed w/ guns.... that can legally even have BULLETS loaded in them...Oh, the humanity

And this isn't exactly new news, but I thought I'd flesh this thing out with this tidbit from the Kagan confirmation hearings. The other day, in one of our RKBA threads, someone made the assertion that had Kagan been confirmed before Heller or McDonald, the outcome would have been diffeent. I thought this might give the lie to that specious assertion, and at the same time, show one of the many reasons I love Vermont.
Leahy: Two years ago in the District of Columbia versus Heller, the Supreme Court held the Second Amendment guarantees to Americans the individual right to keep and bear arms. I'm a gun owner, as are many people in Vermont and I agreed with the Heller decision. And just yesterday, McDonald versus City of Chicago, the Court decided the Second Amendment right established in Heller is a fundamental right that applies to the states as well as the federal government.
Now that's not going to have any affect one way or the other in Vermont, because we don't have gun laws in Vermont, except during hunting season. We try to give the deer a fighting chance, but otherwise, there are no rules. Is there any doubt, after the Court's decisions in Heller and McDonald, that the Second Amendment to the Constitution secures a fundamental right for an individual to own a firearm, use it for self-defense in their home?
Kagan: There is no doubt, Senator Leahy. That is binding precedent entitled to all the respect of binding precedent in any case. So that is settled law.
