After an incredibly $hitacular day at work today, I offer advanced apologies if I come off as catty, over - sensitive, or any other "warm & fuzzy" qualities.
Today was a $hitacular day in the history of journalism, too, because on this date in 1996, FAUX News began polluting our sight, sound, and brains. Somewhere, William Randolph Hearst is smiling; somewhere else, Edward R. Murrow is spinning in his grave.
Edgar Allan Poe died on this date in 1849. What's your favorite Poe story? Mine is, without a doubt, "The Cask of Amontillado." Spooky - a$$ $hit, y'all!
On this date in 1868, Cornell University was inaugurated in Ithaca, NY. Notable alumni include Toni Morrison, Janet Reno, SCOTUS Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Bill Maher (an English major, too!), and some guy who hosts a show on MSNBC every night at 8:00 Indianapolis time; it's called Countdown...uh...hm...gee...well, Countdown with...uh...dammit! memory's the first to go...$HIT! Maybe, I'll remember it later. ;D
Finally, to end with a day that was to change my life 16 years before I was born, on October 7, 1955, some poets and some invited friends gathered at the Six Gallery for some poetry reading. That night, the world was introduced to this:
Let's Countdown - with WhatsHisName! :D
#5 "Chamber of Secrets" AKA "Putting Countries First" AKA "Who’s Funding the GOP?" AKA "FOX VS. Democrats" AKA "Giving ‘Til It Hurts" - Senator (suck on it, BillO!) Al Franken is ready to go to war – figuratively – with the possibility of foreign countries or interests playing a financial role in this country’s elections via the Chamber of Commerce. Man, I wish he was my Senator {insert me pouting here}. Tom Donahue is the cabal’s fearless leader. He & his peeps have spent $10 million on attack ads THIS WEEK. Thank you, Citizens United & SCOTUS! *&^%$#@! Even though great pains are being taken to insist that foreign money doesn’t find its way into our elections, the Times reports,
Under tax rules, it must funnel its donations into a general fund used for all of its activities, political and nonpolitical alike. Its donors are not permitted to direct funds to specific political uses.
How convenient!
The White House has FINALLY weighed in on this & has asked the Chamber to reveal the sources of the funds. Uh...yea...don’t hold your breath on that one, folks. Today, President Obama actually called what’s going on "a threat to our democracy"? DAMN! The Chamber of Commerce actually had the audacity to say that labor unions spend more on election efforts than they do. Wow... Leo Gerard, of the United Steelworkers of America, is gobsmacked at what the COC said. Foreign companies would like more GOBPers to win elections because GOBPers make life way easier for foreign companies to get their tentacles into our elections & our lives in general. Pirate Rupert is NOT HAPPY with the fact that his cool million donated to said Anti – American COC was made public;
I’m crying a river for him! Pirate Rupert may have just stuck his foot down his pie hole when he mentioned his friendship with the lovely GOBP candidate for Governor of OH who was on the FAUX News payroll for years – OOPS! We get a tag team of Rep. James Clyburn & Rep. John Boccieri to talk FAUX News, the Anti – American COC, and other assorted ilk. Contrary to what Rep. Clyburn said, I’m not sure the restoration of the Fairness Doctrine would help FAUX News not donate coin to GOBP candidates & causes. FAUX News & NewsCorp can just elicit some help from their corporate BFFs to outspend any union or group on the "progressive" side that wanted to donate coin in the same manner. The district that Rep. Boccieri represents has lost thousands of jobs to foreign countries; he’s not exactly thrilled with Citizens United, either.
#4 "ON the Record" - A freshman Dem Congress critter whose district voted for Senator McCentury in 2008 & is actually bragging about voting FOR HCR is supposed to have his goose cooked by now. Rep. Tom Perriello is running neck – and – neck with his GOBP opponent, Robert Hurt. The national GOBP establishment has pumped a $hitload of money into this race, and the lovely aforementioned Anti – American Chamber of Commerce has helped, too. And, here’s Rep. Perriello! "Petro dictators" from Rep. Perriello was DAMN good! ;D Golly, it sounds like that Rep. Perriello actually still believes he has a job to do to represent the people of his district!
** A dude is taking a little snooze on the subway & fell over. THAT’s a hell of a wake up! There’s a big a$$ coffee table book in Germany. **
#3 "Auto Repair" - The GOBP still thinks the auto industry bailout was a bad thing even though a report came out today that sales of domestic cars are on the rise when buying incentives are down, and sales of foreign cars are stagnant with buying incentives are up. Well, that’s THE TurdBlossom mind for ya’! ;D
Christine (no relation to Lawrence) O’Donnell crowed against the bailout just recently. Steven Rattner was the auto bailout czar. Y’all like how I used "czar" just to pi$$ off any bat$hit lurkers that might be around? ;D Cash – for – clunkers worked, too. Those on behalf of this administration have been beating their heads against a brick wall to rise above the din of "the usual suspects" to explain that these programs worked!
WPITW – Americans United for Life doesn’t know who’s running for the office they’re running attack ads for. A WV Senate ad went for the "hicky" look. The ad was filmed in "the city of brotherly love." Lou Dobbs employed undocumented workers for his daughter’s horses. And, that imitation’s back again! :D
#1 "A La Carte Government" AKA "Pay to Spray" - Another home caught fire in TN near Olbion County today; that house was saved. The Cranick family is accepting some help! By "snail mail," it’s the

The insurance will cover most of what was lost in the fire – thankfully; what we send will offset the balance. Todd Cranick is here to update what’s going on with his parents. Apparently, another family member had some not – so – nice things to say about the fire fighters who were there & watched that day. Todd was very clear that he didn’t want any violence directed toward anyone concerning what happened, but he’s got some not – so – nice feelings about those fire fighters, too. He also still thinks another house whose owners hadn’t paid the fee would burn with fire fighters watching. Here’s that "lovely" Lonesome Rhodes shtick again. Gee, thanks Keith; I really needed that. I’m sure Todd did, too. All righty, I’m in for $25; that’s all I can do right now. How ‘bout y’all?
