This weekend, Elaine Marshall hit the airwaves in North Carolina with a rejoinder to Richard Burr's hypocritical campaign. As Elaine announced in her diary:
Washington is broken, and we cannot afford to send the same typical politicians like Senator Burr back if we’re going to create jobs and shake up the Senate. That is the message of this television ad – and it will be our closing argument in this campaign.
(You can see the ad in Elaine's diary or on YouTube)
Elaine Marshall is fighting against one of the most hypocritical campaigns in recent memory. Please help Elaine run the ad, or go below the fold ...
Mark Binker of the Greensboro News & Record, breaks down the ad:
Regarding the "shipping jobs to China," this is a riff on material put out by the DSCC earlier this fall (link). Burr did in fact vote against a bill which, according to Reuters (link), "would raise more than $10 billion over a decade by preventing companies from claiming foreign tax credits for income not yet subject to U.S. tax."
Richard Burr knows the main issue is jobs, but he helped move American jobs offshore. The Senator is running on fiscal responsibility, but voted for the wars and the tax cuts that keep digging us a deeper financial hole - $4 trillion in debt. He voted against the stimulus, and then touted projects that use stimulus funding. And his biggest supporters are two guys who supported Kay Hagan two years ago.
Elaine is in the fight of her life and she needs your help. She's running against "Bank Run" Burr, whose 2008 antics - withdrawing his money on a tip that the economy was about to collapse - is the financial equivalent of putting on an oxygen mask on a plane in free-fall and then waiting until the crisis is over before assisting children. "Better than us" Burr keeps on waging war on the middle class, but Secretary Marshall has been happy to take it to a hypocritical Senator who spends money like a drunk on payday.
Burr runs as a national security Republican, but I've written quite a few diaries on how but puts our country in danger when the special interests need him. That's because Burr has taken a ton of money from special interests:
Health Professionals $428,229
Lawyers/law firms $411,799
Pharmaceuticals/ health products $398,733
Insurance $308,160
Lobbyists $297,843
Leadership PACs $279,818
Electric Utilities $269,425
Securities and Investments $240,050
Realtor Ticks $229,700
Commercial Banks $212,682
That is what Elaine is fighting against.
Enough is enough - let's send Burr home.

This is a duel we can win. Go Elaine Go!
