Last week the University of Delaware and New Jersey's Farleigh Dickinson University found Democrats cruising to victory in Delaware. Now, a new poll by New Jersey's Monmouth University puts Chris Coons up by 19 over Christine O'Donnell in the Senate race: 57-38. John Carney also leads in the House race: 53-44.
The Delaware Senate Debate is tonight at 7:30PM and I understand it will be on CNN. You can stream it here.
It's going to be a miserable November 2010 election but Delaware still looks good thanks to the Tea Party. Here are key quotes from Monmouth:
Coons is viewed favorably by 50% of the electorate and unfavorably by 33%. By comparison, O’Donnell has an upside down personal rating of 31% favorable to 58% unfavorable. The difference is even more stark when the question involves the candidates’ qualifications to serve. While nearly 2-in-3 (64%) likely Delaware voters say Coons is qualified to be a U.S. Senator, only 1-in-3 (35%) say the same of O’Donnell. Fully 57% say she is unqualified for the job.
This is a sample of 790 likely voters so the margin of error is 3.5%. Also, it's not a particularly pro-Obama group because he is actually polling very poorly in this sample: Obama Job Approval 44, Disapproval 50. Mike Castle (R) would have won easily.
