It's time for the fall bird migrations here on the East Coast. And the Monarchs are in the midst of their annual trek. Oh, yeah, and the fall colors are supposed to peak this weekend in the local mountains. Hubby and I are dedicated photographers, so of course we'll be out this weekend taking advantage of all this right?
Well, no. Kidlet started high school this year and it's homecoming weekend. With the game, and the dance. And the homebound parents. Sigh. So we'll just have to settle for the fruits of last weekend's mad one-day 600 mile round-trip dash to the Eastern Shore.
WYFP (which stands for "What's Your Fucking Problem?") is our community's Saturday evening gathering to talk about our problems, empathize with one another, and share advice, pootie pictures, favorite adult beverages, and anything else that we think might help. Everyone and all sorts of troubles are welcome. May we find peace and healing here. Won't you please share the joy of WYFP by recommending?
If the color holds we'll hit some foliage next weekend, but this weekend is the peak for both it and the migrations.
Knowing we'd be homebound this weekend, we left last Saturday night after both of us worked and drove down to Norfolk (about 250 miles). Then Sunday morning we crossed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge & Tunnel (about 18 miles of continuous bridge/tunnel). In one flying swoop, we visited Eastern Shore National Wildlife Refuge (whence the Monarch above the fold), Kiptopke State Park, Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge.
Besides the welcoming committee pictured first below, Kiptopke had a butterfly garden.
And of course, one of these...
Chincoteague had herons and egrets and such...
But nowhere did we see the foliage. And as dry as it has been, the color will probably only last a nano-second.
Yeah, I know, pretty lightweight. But that's the biggest FP I got right now...unless agreeing to switch diary nights with plf515 and having absolutely nothing to gripe about counts as an FP in and of itself.
Help me out here...what's your big FP tonight?
