If you tuned into the first debate between Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and her GOP challenger, twice-failed candidate for governor Dino Rossi, you had the pleasure of seeing why our senior Senator is a key member of the Democratic leadership and such an effective voice for our state.
Erica C. Barnett at Publicola.com sums it up:
... Murray killed it. Rossi seemed flustered, unprepared (seriously? You don’t have any answer on Hanford?) and even nervous, stumbling over his answers, ignoring questions, and repeating standard Republican speaking points. In contrast, Murray was polished, sharp, and specific—on every issue from DADT to health care reform to illegal immigration to the stimulus, you knew exactly where she stands. An impressive performance.

On Sunday, Oct. 17, Senator Murray and Mr. Rossi will debate for a second time. Watch it on KOMO (channel 4 Seattle) at 7 p.m. Pacific time, or watch the livestream at www.KOMOnews.com.
In the meantime, compare Senator Murray and Mr. Rossi in this video from the campaign:
Compare the records of the two candidates running for U.S. Senate in Washington. Patty Murray cut payroll taxes. Dino Rossi wants to cut minimum wage by $1.50. Patty saved thousands of Boeing jobs from going to France. Rossi wants to keep tax loopholes corporations use to ship jobs overseas. Patty extended emergency unemployment benefits for people looking for work. Rossi opposed it and turned his back on us. Patty Murray will always fight for us.
Consider Dino Rossi’s repeated assaults on women’s access to health care:
Can we trust a man who wants to turn back the clock? Dino Rossi voted against insurance companies covering women’s contraceptives. He voted against funding for emergency contraceptives. Rossi even voted to deny women unemployment benefits if they were fleeing domestic violence. And Rossi wants to take away a woman’s right to choose and make abortion illegal.
Time and time again, Dino Rossi has shown that he would turn back the clock on women's rights and deny women access to affordable and comprehensive health care. He's just not on our side.
For 18 years, Senator Patty Murray has fought for Washington’s working families, veterans, children and environment. She is proud to be a democrat and she is right to be proud. And she's not afraid to stand with President Obama, whose voice you will hear in the next video and who will visit Seattle on Oct. 21 to campaign for Patty. We need Patty in the Senate leadership and we need to hold our Democratic majority. If you are a Washington voter, please vote to re-elect Patty Murray.
Together, we can win.
