If you had $5 million to direct to the 2010 congressional campaign(s) of your choice, where would you direct it and why?
We should vote on this question, quickly raise $5,000,000 and direct the money accordingly.
Last week, Daily Kos got somewhere between 369,000 and 635,000 daily page views. With approximately half a million daily visitors, the majority of whom are extremely dedicated to Democratic causes, we could raise $5 million in 24 hours with an average contribution of $10. Or, 10% of us could pony up $100. More likely, some combination of those two.
With Politico reporting that outside corporate groups are flooding the GOP with cash this cycle, grass roots action is necessary to ensure our voices are heard.
Two questions:
- Do you think it's possibly for Daily Kos readers to raise $5 million for the 2010 midterm elections in 24 hours?
- If so, how would you vote to direct that money?
Regarding the first question, I believe it's not only possible but very likely that Daily Kos readers could raise these funds in that time frame, if the effort was sufficiently well organized.
Regarding the second, I'm not sure. Personally, I'd prefer to see the money spent one of two ways: (1) focused primarily on the 2 closest Senate races to ensure we retain the majority in that chamber, or (2) focused on the 10 closest House races with the cheapest media markets, to stem potential losses in that chamber.
What does everyone think?
