For some time I have wanted to say thank you to some famous people for taking a stand or just being nice people. I'm not talking about stalking or even getting a response from a celebrity. I'm talking about just putting it out there so maybe they will hear that they had an impact on someone's life without even knowing it.
For me, this all started with Bill Graham, the rock impresario. He was wonderful during the sixties. He was a capitalist and took some heavy hits for that; however, he could put together venues for protests seemingly at the drop of a hat. When he died years ago in a helicopter crash, I regretted that I just assumed he would always be there.
Well, now that I am in my sixties, I know we need to say the good things now. I will throw out a few of my Thank Yous, but I really want to hear yours.
George Maharis - Was exceedingly nice to me on the telephone when I was thirteen. He was filming Route 66 in Oregon. Somehow, I figured out where he was staying and left word for him to call me, which he did. My mother answered the phone and gave him the number where I was babysitting. He actually called and talked to me there. As his story unfolded over the next few years, I formed a prejudice regarding gays based on my encounter with him; favorable of course. If only George Maharis could call everyone, the world would be a better place. Thank you George.
Jan Wiener and Rolling Stone - Fear and Loathing, The Music - Always political. Sometimes I'm actually glad I'm part of a huge population bulge, even if it means all my original thoughts were processed by at least 20,000 people in my demographic three days earlier. Sometimes, it is just worth it. Thank you Jan.
I could go on, but I want to hear from you.
