Early voting started here in Nevada on Saturday and boy was it busy!
Voting started at 10.00 am on Saturday morning and when I got to the Carson City courthouse (the only early voting location in our rather small state capitol) at 10.05 there was a huge line.
The line went down the length of two long corridors and almost out the front door of the courthouse. I had to wait 35 minutes to cast my ballot. The delay simply had to be due to the number of people voting as there were 6 people from the clerk-recorder's office checking in voters and 20 machines to vote at.
I overheard one of the people in charge tell a reporter that turn-out was always heavy on the first day of early voting but this was very similar to 2008.
There is certainly a lot of interest in the election. Unfortunately the vast majority of people lined up to early vote on Saturday were white senior citizens, which probably doesn't bode well. Or I can be optimistic and it's merely who was out and about at 10.00 am on a Saturday morning.
At any rate I finally got my chance to hold my nose and vote for Reid pere et fils (why can't we get decent candidates?) and every other Democrat on the down ballot elections. And when I left the courthouse the line was still almost as long as when I got there.
