I'll say it first so you don't have to: this is not really a diary.
But, OTOH I searched and it does not seem to have been diaried yet. I'm not sure what it means or doesn't mean, but on Monday it was discovered that someone had taken shots at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Virginia. Then this morning, someone took some shots at the Pentagon.
WASHINGTON -- Someone fired shots at the Pentagon early Tuesday, hitting the building and causing minor damage, defense officials said.
Police who protect the massive Defense Department headquarters temporarily locked down some road and pedestrian entrances to the building after a civilian reported he may have heard shots at about 5 a.m. on the south side of the facility.

The museum is near the Marine Corps base at Quantico, and of course the Pentagon is right next to 395.
A cleaning crew at the museum associated with the Quantico Marine Base called police when they noticed the bullet holes in windows high up in a part of the building that faces Interstate 95.
Police believe the shots were fired at the museum late Saturday or early Sunday, when no one was inside.
The museum, for those of you not from this area, is quite a hike down I95, but not so far that people don't commute to DC to work every day. You can see the museum, or part of it at any rate, from the highway. You can also see the Pentagon from the highway, in fact, if you're directionally challenged as I am from time to time, you could accidentally end up heading towards the Pentagon parking lot if you get caught in the wrong exit lane on 395. (Note: I am apparently not the first person ever to do this, the guards were very nice about re-directing me back to where I belonged).
I find it a bit strange that two such iconic buildings, each readily accessible from the public roadway, have been shot at in the last two or three days.
If anyone else has a better, more substantive diary to write on these two incidents, I'll happily delete this. Also, I have no idea what tags to use for this... Finally, please don't rec this. There are far more important diaries that deserve attention. Thanks.

Excerpt from the Washington Post:
"A 22-year-old Alexandria man has been charged with shooting at military buildings in the D.C. region last fall, and federal officials said in court papers that he videotaped himself shouting “Allah Akbar” after he fired shots at the U.S. Marine Corps museum."
