Arizona's 3rd Congressional District is notorious for being the home of John Shadegg. Even after Shadegg's announced retirement, this was considered a safe bet for a GOP keep. Unfortunately, Ben Quayle thought that this would be an easy ride in this GOP-leaning district to victory. Little did he know, his past is coming back to haunt him in every way possible. More after the jump.
You may have already known of Ben's propensity for poor choices in his blogging. Ben was a former contributor to "TheDirty.com", a national website that chronicles some of the nation's top party cities, including where it originated, in Scottsdale, AZ.
Ben's website lists him as a family values alternative to the terrible leftists who believe in gay marriage and "anti-American" values. Ben's also let us know that he is a true family man and believes that Barack Obama is the "Worst President Ever".
AZ Republic--Quayle lists Obama as Worst President Ever
This blustering and lack of attention paid to individual candidate in a 12 candidate GOP field allowed his name recognition to take him to the top. After winning the primary, Ben pretty much stood pat, believing that in this district, winning the primary was equal to winning the general. He didn't count on these things coming up:
Brock's Chicks posts from "TheDirty.Com"
Ben initially lied about his involvement with the website, stating that he had absoultley no involvement in this what-so-ever. Then his tune changed, and now the stories about his involvement seem to morph every day.
Ben's post as "Brock Landers" (a porn star pseudonym from Boogie Nights)included writing posts and helping drive traffic to the website by talking about "Scottsdale's skankiest women", encouraging prostitution, the use of hard drugs, and made fun of children with Down's Syndrome.
This didn't look like it was going to catch up to him due to the GOP-lean of this extremely wealthy AZ district. Until today.
PPP has now come up with a new poll showing Ben Quayle trailing Democrat Jon Hulburd by two points--and now is the crunch time when we need your help to make sure that we take this seat in an election where every win we can get is crucial.
Hulburd leads 46-44
While Ben Quayle moved to our district a year ago just to run for this office. Meanwhile, Jon Hulburd has been a member of Phoenix's community for decades, raising all five of his children in CD3. He is also a member of the board of Phoenix Children's Hospital.
This is from Jon's website:
Hulburd experienced the exhilarating - and sometimes challenging - realities of owning his own business. He created and ran an import company for 6 years, which produced and shipped handcrafted Mexican pottery to American retailers. Jon now focuses most of his attention on making a difference in our community. He believes some of his best work has been in the not-for-profit sector. He donated his legal skills to the Golden Gate Community Center in Phoenix, and his time to All Saints' Episcopal Day School and the Phoenix Thunderbirds. Hulburd is currently on the Board of Directors for the New Way Learning Academy and the Phoenix Children's Hospital.
And not to mention:
A long-time supporter of the Phoenix Children's Hospital, Jon was a key player on the fundraising committee that raised $17 million to fund the hospital's Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which is one of the largest in the nation. Each year approximately 1,300 babies throughout Arizona are admitted to this intensive care nursery. Following this success, Jon was asked to join the Board of Directors to assist in the stewardship of the hospital and the children it serves. During his tenure the hospital launched a Level One Pediatric Trauma Center, the only facility of its kind in Arizona. Currently, the hospital is in the middle of a major expansion, which is due for completion in two years and is the largest privately funded construction project in the state.
Jon Hulburd is a true family man and we as Democrats have a chance to take a congressional seat that was not supposed to be in play. Please join me in supporting Jon Hulburd by making a donation via his website:
Hulburd Contributions
Please join me in supporting Jon Hulburd's campaign. I know that Arizona has taken a hit lately because our backwards Gov and state legislature. Electing common sense candidates like Jon will help to rebuild our reputation and keep Democrats strong in Arizona.
Let's not give Dan Quayle's little boy a free ticket to a congressional seat based on his dad's rolodex and name recognition. We have a chance to make a change now--and please join me in supporting Jon Hulburd for Congress. It's time to take back Arizona--and I hope I can count on the Kos community for that.
For disclosure's sake, I am a resident of CD3 and a volunteer, but NOT a paid staff member of the Hulburd for Congress campaign.
