High-profile event for Illinois Governor Pat Quinn with tech-darling Groupon this week.
At this point I'll ask everyone to resist the obvious punchlines about Groupon, politicians and Cook County ("Cast One Ballot, Have Three Counted!") and check out the specifics of the 'endorsement' (along with some righteous pro-PQ editorial clips) below the fold:
Pat Quinn works every day to help businesses grow and create jobs in Illinois. Today is no different.
Monday morning, the Governor announced a $3.5 million investment package for Internet sensation Groupon. The company – which Forbeshas called the “fastest growing company ever” – will create 250 new jobs in Chicago as a result of Governor Quinn’s investment.
Groupon began in Chicago, and has grown from seven employees in 2008 to more than 2500, 900 in Chicago alone. The company matches groups of online consumers with deals at local small businesses.
Groupon was growing so fast, that they contemplated moving their business to another state – but Governor Quinn stepped up to keep them here.
This unique company’s going to keep growing, just as Pat Quinn keeps growing our economy – step by step and job by job.
More Land of Lincoln (and Obama) Democratic goodness from the Chicago Sun-Times:
One man lives in the real world, the other lives in an ideological box that shuts out real people and real pain.
One man has a workable plan for Illinois, the other has a sham of a plan that will never add up.
One man is committed to making Illinois a more pro-business state while at the same time preserving services for the most needy people among us -- the mentally ill, the elderly and schoolchildren.
The other wants to create a more pro-business climate, too, but disproportionately at the expense of those same powerless people.
In the Nov. 2 election for governor, the Sun-Times endorses that first man -- incumbent Gov. Pat Quinn.
For the record, FiveThirtyEight currently gives Gov. Quinn a 22% shot to reel this one in (but the trendlines are in the good guys' favor). This is the sort of race where we need to draw the line in the event of a "wave" election.
I'll close with the obligatory links:
