One note on geography - in NYC, a lot of districts are bizarrely shaped, but this doesn't relate to Dem. vs. Repub., as all of the districts are Democratic, and all but one solidly so. You have to look at the maps to appreciate them. They are mostly ethnically based. NY-12 is Hispanic/Latino, NY-08 is Jewish, etc.
