Let's have a chat, Kossacks. About a race that's gotten virtually no publicity, but now is considered to be perhaps our best pickup opportunity of the November 2nd election.
Allow me to introduce Dr. Ami Bera, running against corporate schill and general Republican thug Rep. Dan Lungren in the 3rd district of California.
Doctor Amerish Bera is a first-generation American, born of Indian parents. He obtained his M.D. from the University of California, Irvine, and has been in private practice since 1995. In addition, he served as Sacramento's chief medical officer- where he began a pilot healthcare program for the uninsured; and as a teacher at the UC Davis medical school.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Bera today at his Carmichael headquarters. He arrived bearing cookies for the office, jammed with phonebankers and canvassers resting after running through heavy rain to get out the vote. He spoke of the "ninth inning" of the campaign, and that it was time to bring the race home.
Dr. Bera is everything Dan Lungren is not. He has terrific knowledge of the issues, especially healthcare. He wants to continue expanding government healthcare to reach all Americans, seeing the current health law as a "first step." He wants to bring jobs to California and prevent outsourcing, restoring the idea of "Made in America." He is honest, forthright, and cares about the people of the district.
Rep. Lungren, meanwhile, wants to repeal the healthcare law, opposes gay marriage and the stimulus, and is so far to the right it's amazing he was able to squeak out a win in 2008 against a vastly underfunded opponent. He's now living on borrowed time. CA-03 went for Obama in 2008, and it's going for Dr. Bera on the 2nd of November, if you can help.
