We voted today. We took Chibi when she got home from school as my own private "Get out the vote" campaign. We reviewed the ballot (again) on the way. Everyone knew who and what they were voting for.
Then we got to the library and Chibi wanted to check over the ballot again. There was no waiting, so why not? One more time she read the ballot initiatives. Figuring out who to vote for is fairly easy, except for the Florida Senate race this year. It's the Amendments where "No" can mean "Yes" that are difficult to figure out. Although we passed an Amendment awhile back that said no means "no" and yes means "yes", the manipulators still play games. I had no problem with her double checking herself. We didn't vote identically on everything, it is a vote after all.
I was amused with her thought process.
Maybe, you will be amused too.
I asked if I could share her thinking with you. She consented with a few requests for privacy.
Senate - Meek definitely, Rubio makes me gag and Crist is too slick to trust.
Florida State Senate - The lady with the hat who's followed Meek.
Florida Governor - The nice lady who can do math, not the rat who doesn't know what "is", is in a deposition.
Florida Attorney General - not the one named like a stripper. I acerbically cautioned, "I hope you are referring to people who do 4-color separations for printers, because...." Chibi cut me off, "I know Mom. Going for the dude." (I'm still suspicious of what she meant.)
Florida CFO - The lady the Republicans hate.
I like the guy who wants green energy.....
And, she went right through to the judges. "How do I know if I want to retain a judge again?"
Sigh, "We checked the website where lawyers rate the judges and checked to see how often they are overturned on appeal."
"Oh, right. Who passed the test?"
Mr. Wolverton stared at the sky looking for strength I presume, "Lucky for us, they all did."
"Oh, right, too bad we don't get to vote on retaining Supreme court judges." I thought better of interrupting, "Ok, yes, yes, yes," pause, "yes, yes, yes."
Now, on to the Amendments.
She mumbled to herself, "No, yes, yes, yes, yeees, NO! Then, as if! yes, no, yes, yes, yes. OK! Let's go!"
All right, we got in showed our driver's licenses, confirmed our address, we voted, we're done! We all got caught on a city initiative that we weren't aware was on the ballot, but it only took each us about 5 minutes to parse it out, we all independently decided to vote no on it.
Total time including the drive to and from the polling place in downtown Hollywood, 1 hour, 40 minutes.
It was a breeze.
I highly recommend early voting.
No enthusiasm gap here.
