Hey there all, I announced a few weeks ago that I am a campaign manager for a write-in candidate for Congress from northeastern Missouri. Jeff Reed didn't like that our party failed to field a candidate to take on Republican congressman Blaine Leutkemeyer, so he registered as a write-in . Jeff has been an organizer with the Coffee Party in mid Missouri, and now both he and the CP are getting some recognition.
From today's Telegraph UK.
US midterms: Coffee Party emerges to take on the Tea Party
The Coffee Party, a latte-sipping, liberal reaction to the populist conservative Tea Party movement, has emerged on the political scene, attracting hundreds of thousands of online followers.
It has just one candidate, Jeff Reed, who is competing in Missouri's 9th district, a safe rural Republican seat, in next week's midterm elections. He does not yet appear to have a website up and running.
While its slogan, "Wake Up and Stand Up", has yet to inspire the popularity that has seen Tea Party groups back 139 candidates for the House of Representatives on a surge of anti-big government sentiment, the Coffee Party's founder takes solace in attracting more than 300,000 followers on Facebook.
I'm so excited about this news, and it really puts the cherry on top of a great week for me. If you'd like to know more about Jeff please check out a transcript of the Q+A we had with the Beer Party on Facebook.
Well, in Missouri's 9th District, we are currently represented by Blaine Luetkemeyer, A Republican and recent member of The Tea Party caucus. A few months ago, I got involved with the Coffee Party movement in Mid-Missouri. My involvement with that was a very valuable learning experience. It also led me to Congressman Luetkemeyers office to have talks on him sitting down with my group to talk one on one about what we could all be doing together to improve the process and the way of life for millions of Americans. Needless to say, my office visit did not go very well and they used that as an opportunity to fling GOP buzzwords at me for an hour.
The filing deadline came and passed and no Democratic challenger stepped up to the plate. So I filed as a Write In to give a voice to the constituents of my district, that do support a health care plan for all americans, that do want to invest in clean energy jobs, and that do want the middle and working class to have a chance.
We're fundraising for Jeff as well as for Joe Sestak, Jack Conway, Alexi Giannoulias, Kendrick Meek, Barbara Boxer, Justin Coussoule, John Waltz, Alan Grayson, Anthony Weiner and others. So far we've raised $38,995.. $8,995 over our goal. I'll match the next $100 given through our page to any of our candidates.
