I'm a prime example of someone who won't vote for the Democrat this year. In an earlier post, I participated in a back and forth where I defended reasons for voting for Lincoln Chafee instead of Frank Caprio. I mentioned the strange dilemma that I face here in IN-05. I said I'd either leave the US Congress box blank or vote for a third party.
Well now that I've had time to do a little more research, I'm DEFINITELY leaving the box blank. I went online to Project Vote Smart to check out all of the candidates and was quickly disappointed. Please stick with me as I tell our dreadful story.
Yes, we should make the best effort to stick together and support our own as much as possible, but momma didn't raise no fool. Tim Crawford and Frank Caprio don't deserve to get Democratic votes. In fact, it's an insult to us that they even DARE to place a D behind their names.
Here in IN-05, "our" candidate, Tim Crawford, is a dyed in the wool teabagger who says he won't support Nancy Pelosi. We all know what Dan Burton is about. The other 2 candidates are a Libertarian and an Independent. Neither of them are worthy of mentioning their names because their profiles are almost identical to Burton's and Crawford's. Thank God we have people in other races to vote for, otherwise I'd stay home before I give my vote to a doggone teabagger.
But here's the kicker. I got a sample ballot in the mail today from the Indiana Democratic Party, instructing us what to do and highlighting the Democratic candidates we need to support. Under US Congress, they highlight Andre Carson IN-07. Interestingly, Tim Crawford IN-05 is no where to be seen.
I got all hyped thinking maybe there was a district change or something and now I'll finally have a progressive representative because Andre is DEFINITELY gonna win. I jumped online to do some checking on the matter. Nope, there was no district change. I'm still stuck with Dan Burton because, sadly, he's definitely gonna win too.
So what's up with the sample ballot? The Democrats chose to exclude Tim Crawford because he sucks and they're not supporting him. Their decision has nothing to do with insider Washington politics. This is all local. We hate this guy.
The only reason he won the Democratic primary is because no one knew anything about either candidate. The person who ran against him, Nasser Hanna, has an ethnic sounding name. Even though it was the Democratic primary, this is still Indiana in a very red district. Tim Crawford was easy to pronounce so there ya have it! No, I don't have any proof that's what happened but trust me, that was it.
I didn't vote for Tim Crawford in the primary and I won't vote for him on Tuesday. I just can not justify allowing him to get the benefit of even 1 vote due to the straight ticket option. So I guess I'll be spending a little more time in the booth to fill out the entire ballot. Again, thank GOD we have other candidates to support. Brad Ellsworth doesn't have a chance but I'm gonna make the trip to the voting booth in his favor anyway. At least in this case, opting not to vote is a vote for Dan Coats. Y'all know I can't let that fly.
