Keith Fimian Blames Gun Control for the Virginia Tech Massacre.

Keith Fimian is the Republican challenger to Gerry Connolly in VA-11 (Fairfax and Prince William Counties).  Mr. Fimian challenged Rep. Connolly in 2008 and got trounced.  He’s behind by five points or more now (perhaps many more by tonight).

Keith Fimian supports the loophole that allows criminals and others to purchase guns at gun shows. He thinks it's a great idea to allow students to carry guns into classrooms.  A few days ago, he told a reporter for Channel 50 that the Virginia Tech massacre would not have happened:

“If one of those kids in one of those classrooms had been packing heat.”

Link to video where he said it.

Yes, he said it.

Thirty-one students and a professor -- a Holocaust survivor who used his body to barricade the door -- were killed at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007, the worst day of campus violence in the history of the United States.

News coverage from that awful day:

Keith Fimian doesn’t seem to understand that if we had tougher gun control laws, the shooter – a mentally unstable young man -- never would have been able to buy the guns he used that day to kill all those people.

Eighteen-year-old Reema Salaha from Chantilly, Virginia was one of those killed.

Today, her brother spoke out about her murder:

And Keith Fimian, GOP liar, attempted to walk his comments back:

Keith Fimian is a danger to Northern Virginia.

I support Gerry Connolly.

Rally with Gerry and Sen. Jim Webb tomorrow.

And canvass and phonebank to re-elect Gerry Connolly!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
