THIS disturbing article in our local independent weekly. The ruling that threw out the high standards for ballot access came too late to automatically open the door for Nader, but not too late for him to challenge for reconsideration. Thankfully, his appearing on the ballot STILL seems mostly unlikely.
Ballots are supposed to be printed tomorrow (8/16), so they've got little time to mount a battle. Judging from their activities in other states, Id be quite surprised if they didnt at least TRY to go down this road in NC. A right wing judge just MIGHT try to force the issue and extend deadlines.
Even still, there is likely to remain a relatively high bar for Nader, even if he DOES seek and win a challenge. Seems like there might still be a requirement for >50,000 valid signatures. This will unfold quickly.
