My wife Melanie broke her ankle at work a couple weeks ago.
She's told me that her injury has increased her appreciation of what people with permanent disabilities deal with all the time, from showering to getting up and down the front steps. Just getting out of the house and getting to work has been difficult,we have to start about 20 minutes earlier than usual just to get her wheelchair to the car.
Due to her work schedule, she doesn't have time to visit this site much these days(unless I send her a link),but she's very politically active, done lots of phone-banking,canvassing for Democratic candidates during recent elections. She asked me to post a diary about this here.
Last Thursday, she had surgery, which included a steel plate and multiple screws being placed inside her ankle.
Two days later,she voted.
We've got your "enthusiasm gap" RIGHT HERE:

Melanie would like to point out that if she can get out and vote everyone of us can! Bring a friend while you're at it.
PS:
I don't write many diaries,I'm still figuring out how "embedding" works, please check out the flickr link.
