Okay, so let's assume you are a blue dog -- you know who you are -- and you've spent the last two years trying to dodge tough votes and watering down the Democratic agenda, so you can get reelected. And what happened yesterday? -- your constituents decide that if they want a Republican, they'll vote for a real one, thank you, rather than a Democrat that acts like one. Your best laid plans came to naught, and you got the worst of all worlds -- you acted like a Republican, and got hosed like a Democrat, and you got beat.
So whaddya going to do now, bad boy?
How about trying to make amends for the lost loyalty you should have shown fellow Democrats (not to mention the millions they gave you over the last several elections so you could get that seat)? Specifically, why don't you come back to the lame duck session/s and do the right thing, for a change? Here's a few suggestions:
-- vote to kill DADT once and for all
-- vote for serious immigration reform
-- vote for a long-term extension of unemployment benefits
-- vote to raise the debt limit now
-- vote for cap and trade legislation
-- probably vote for a few other things that I can't think of right now
I'm not sure how many of these are actually going to come up again during a lame duck session, but for the life of me, I don't see why the Democrats won't take the effort to try to wrap up the unfinished business that they know otherwise won't happen for at least two more years. Sweating a filbuster -- attach it to something that even the GOP can's stall. Too late for excuses now, bad boy!
So why not try? What have you got to lose? You've got a perfect chance to clean up some of the mess you've made, to make it harder for the new GOP House to rollback the good work that's been done in the last two years, and to give cover to the Democrats in the next Congress.
Go ahead and have some fun! Irritate the people who beat you! Sour grapes are better than no grapes! And I hope you enjoy your retirement you earned it!
