In the wake of last night, we are now faced with dealing with the Republican Party as a controlling entity in the House of Representatives.
I predict that they will fast change from being the party of "no" to the party of tax cuts, pork and spending.
Democrats need to keep ahead of them on messaging.
We can't let the Republicans set the agenda.
Their first goal will be to pay off the people who poured millions of dollars into their campaigns. That means more tax breaks, killing climate change measures and protecting off-shoring of jobs.
The MSM will be meekly asking the Republicans what's on the agenda for the next two years. We need to make a point of getting the answer out first.
I wrote to the President this morning asking him to set the agenda.
Mr. President.
In the wake of the disappointing results of yesterday's election, I know we all have a lot of work to do to move this nation forward.
It is my sincere hope that the Republican held House does not become a pit of investigations and stonewalling.
Please accept this advice and act on it:
You must set the agenda. Please do not let the Republicans set the agenda. They will try to make they key issues of this term the weakening of Social Security, the weakening of the health care reform bill, cutting much needed social programs, and more and more tax cuts for the wealthy and for corporations.
We need to move forward on job creation, and on making sure that Americans get a fair chance in this economy.
Please stay ahead of the messaging, and set the agenda.
Peace.
We can't let the Republicans come in and say, "You are all working until age 70 so we can keep our tax cuts."
We can't let them come in and jump up and down saying that medicare is broken or that Social Security is broken.
We need to get there first.
We can't allow the people who offered a one page flow chart as it's solution to HCR to set the agenda for the future of health care in this country.
I hope the President takes today's press conference as an opportunity to set our agenda.
