You know what I'm really getting tired of hearing? President Obama come out everyday and tell us that there's nothing he can do about a problem without the help of Congress.
The US is standing in front of the UN defending their human rights record. One of the obvious complaints from the other nations are the numerous violations associated with Guantanamo Bay, a prison Obama promised to have closed on January 20, 2010. Now we hear that Obama can't close it without the approval of Congress. How does the leader of the military not have the power to stop the abuse at a military prison? No one's upset because the electricity is on at the prison, they're upset about the human rights violations there; The lack of habeus corpus! Why can't the Commander in Cheif order those prisoners moved? Charge them with crimes? If we have nothing to charge them with then we have no right holding them. It's that easy. Done.
Obama can't end "Don't Ask Don't Tell" without Congress.
Ironically, Obama's Justice Department is obliged to appeal an order declaring "Don't Ask Don't Tell" unconstitutional, but that same Justice Department can't prosecute any of the criminals in the finacnial meltdown these past couple years.
So my question is this, President Obama, what exactly do you think you can do? It's so frustrating reading in the news everything Obama claims to have no control over. Bush accomplished quite a bit (to the dismay of many). You're the freakin' President of the United States. Start acting like it!
Ahhhh, I needed that vent.
