As has been the case for the last two election cycles, the EDR team has worked tirelessly to bring you the best of the Daily Kos community every night without fail since September 7. While the outcome was decidedly different this time around, it was certainly not for lack of effort on the part of the EDR Miners, Editors and Scheduler. In keeping with our tradition, they'll have the "final word" to share their thoughts before the curtain drops for the season....

2008 was the first time I was able to help out on the Election Diary Rescue. I loved reading all the diaries. I felt like a kid in a candy shop and election night was one of the best nights in my life.
Back to the present - I live in Michigan. It doesn't get much bleaker than being a Democrat in Michigan this week. This year the diaries weren't my candy. They were more like bread and water, sustenance to get through what was happening in Michigan. As Michigan was turning red Tuesday night I heard of areas of hope. I recognized the names of those candidates that were winning in very tough races and I thought of the diarists that had informed me of those candidates and it lifted my mood a bit. I am grateful to the diarists that kept us all informed.
I also want to thank everybody on the crew - what a great group! My special thanks to those that I had the most contact with: suejazz our scheduler and Alma, randallt and joieau, the editors. These people performed an amazing job and personify grace under pressure.
- Alma
This was a hard year. It started hard and it finished hard. There's no magic pill that could have fixed it.
My miners were great. The best in the world. We really gave our back-up miners a workout this year and as usual they were up to the task and jumped right in. Heh, we gave our scheduler quite a workout too changing shift times several times through our run.
The diarists make this diary. It's to you that I give my gratitude for doing your best to get info into the hands of people that could use it and to inspiring people to GOTV. I hope you are all in for 2012.
And to sidinny who started this way back in 2006. We couldn't have done this without you my friend.
- Joieau
Another election tucked into history's sometimes-lumpy bed, another notch on our political handles. My sincere thanks to all the dedicated diarists and writers who helped us keep up with important races in so many districts and states. And thanks to all my fellow miners and editors for the hard, sometimes frustrating work over these past couple of months. Have a great holiday season everyone, and don't forget to be kind - we live in interesting times! §;o)
- randallt
Well we worked hard, we did some good work. And we enjoyed the company. The next election started Wednesday. Let's go!

Another year come and gone...another election diary rescue season gone...what a year! First, to my co-rescuers...thank you for your friendship, the fun & any pies that will be mailed to me in the future! This effort takes a lot of people doing a lot of different things but most importantly it takes you, the Kossacks who blog about the candidates and ballot initiatives etc to make this go. Without your diaries to rescue well we wouldn't even exist...so thank YOU
Let's wrap things up with some well-deserved Thank You's:
The EDR crew would like to once again express our appreciation to Markos and the entire editorial team at DK for not only providing the Front Page real estate, but also for their continued support and encouragement.
We thank our fine candidates for giving it their all, and particularly those who have engaged with the DK community - the true "grassroots" - directly.
To the diarists who kept writing and made a difference.
And to those who commented and read our compilation on a nightly basis.
Peace, all...........
