There's nothing that says "I understand how to do better over the next two years" than continuing with the same House and Senate leaders who have been running the show so effectively for the previous four.
To finally get spending and deficits in line, and to ensure the cooperation of even the most hawkish Republicans, every half-trillion dollar military budget and utterly unexpected 'supplemental' must be rubber stamped as before. Anything less would hurt our stranded troops. Nancy Pelosi vowed to do this four years ago and she has delivered, without ever wavering. We need more.
The fact that funding these wars makes us much less safe -- as even Rumsfeld's report acknowledged -- is insignificant compared to the political boost we can see this policy has won for our party. Even Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid were re-elected! And it's not like that money could be used for education, jobs, or incentives here in the US. It belongs in the middle east with our oil.
I could go on about all the other things Pelosi, Reid and our President should continue, but it's pretty obvious they all spell Change and that nothing is going to be more effective over the coming two years than continuing the Democratic leadership we've had.
The Daily Kos is doing its job when it points out that Pelosi is the only choice we should consider for Minority Leader, and that debating or advocating other options would be unnecessary and foolish. Bravo for the NetRoots and the change we're bringing.
We're especially gratified that the links The Daily Kos provides don't allow its members to support or even mention alternatives to Pelosi. We don't want anyone to consider them or even hear about them. Our stated goal is not to find out what Daily Kos members might want - it's to collect 20,000 signatures for Pelosi out of 1/2 million DKos readers, to show we've got her back. The choices are, Nancy Pelosi or no Minority Leader - either sign the Pledge to Congresswoman Pelosi or don't cast any vote. That's why we proudly call our party Democratic.*
*That's also why, to prevent confusion, we're always careful to capitalize it.
