Several months ago I decided to leave Dailykos after a Diary made the Rec list that I felt was disparaging toward service members. I've decided to come back.
My departure was not due to any animosity I had toward Dailykos, or its founder, Markos. In fact, I have always had nothing but the greatest respect for the man. As a currently serving member of the armed forces I was just fed up with much of the (what I perceived to be) antimilitary sentiment. And no, I do not associate antiwar with being antimilitary. I was also fed up with a lot of the constant pissing on President Obama.
I didn't post some dramatic "I'm mad now I'm leaving" Diary. I just quietly left and sought another Democratic site. What I found was less military bashing and more Obama and Democratic Party bashing.
I'm not sure what to think about that. Obama's detractors would say, "It's because Obama threw Liberals under the bus!"
But the latest Gallup numbers don't add up to that reasoning.
http://www.gallup.com/...
76% of (non-Democratic) Liberals approve of President Obama's job performance.
88% of Liberal Democrats also approve.
And this when his overall approval is at a modest 45% overall.
During the lead up to the election I received email after email from Dailykos working hard to keep the House and the Senate. Fundraising drives, get out the vote initiatives, etc. I received nothing from the anyone else except the party's own campaigns and Dailykos.
While I have no idea what Dailykos members have been up to or what you all have been discussing leading up to November, without a doubt the website owners and administrators have actually cared about the outcome. So, I decided to come back.
So here's a little glass half full for you guys.
President Clinton lost the House (and) Senate immediately following his inauguration - never to regain either. Here's what we had working against us this year.
- High unemployment numbers, which was inevitable only two years after the great financial meltdown that was years in the making.
- An endless flood of Corporate cash into GOP pockets thanks to the shameful Supreme Court ruling.
- This election followed two prior elections of huge Democratic Congressional wins. Holding power in Congress for long periods of time is a feat for any party, under any circumstances.
- We own the Executive branch. The party who has the Presidency typically has a harder time holding Congress.
- A Conservative media who did nothing that promote the narrative of doom and gloom for the Democrats for months.
The Democrats today have more working against them than at the beginning of the Clinton administration, and at least we kept the Senate.
It's disappointing, but it's time for us to pick our heads up and get to work on the issues!
