First off, to any and all loyal democrats – I will be the first to admit that Barack Obama is not the worst president in the history of the U S & A. The President has signed his name to some pretty nice pieces of paper.
It's not anything personal that progressive independents such as myself hold against him, or think that the country would be any better under the leadership of John McCain or Hillary Clinton.
It’s his extension of the public war criminal’s war crimes. It’s his refusal to back a health care plan he once espoused, and basically anything else significant Candidate Obama said he’d do. (offshore drilling iraq dadt etc)
Basically, it’s Barack Obama’s complete and total immersion in the system that he rallied us against in 2008. The Clintons and the Rahms and the insiders he promoted rather than kicked out the door. The ‘it’s not his fault, the republican’ts completely derailed the train’ meme can defend our country's current direction only so far. (and it does, quite a long way in fact.)
If there’s any thing of particular note in last week’s return of the red, it’s that America is completely lacking a viable third party in almost every nook of the nation. The tea party, a corporate-owned race rally (where else have we heard the ‘state’s rights’ meme? ), is the closest thing we’ve got. & they’re all registered republicans.
Koch brothers on the right, George Soros on the left and a million special interests in between.
The problem, really, lies in apathy. A democracy requires participation from the people for there to be power to the people; abstaining from voting to make a political point is the silliest excuse I’ve ever heard. At the very least, vote for communist candidates. Anything to show the donkeys and elephants that they don’t represent you.
Come 2012, GOTV. Good candidates exist, if you nominate them. The U.S. political system is very much rigged to keep the ‘two-party’ corporate party going way past midnight, but it’s time for it to be crashed.
The internet is the greatest communication device in history, and it’s these blogs and comments sections where we can find like minds. Like minds with unique voices to help us make ourselves at home in this place called Earth. I wrote this essay to find such voices. So if you read this, post what's changing (or needs to be) in your cranny of the country. Evolution through conversation.
