In case you missed last Friday’s big news story, MSNBC suspended Keith Olbermann who hosts the show "Countdown with Keith Olbermann.
Olbermann was suspended because he did not get prior permission from MSNBC for three campaign donations of $2400.00 each to Democrats running for congress as his contract stipulates.
Joe Scarborough who hosts MSNBC’s early morning show called "Morning Joe", made contributions and even campaigned for some candidates, but was not suspended. But we are told he had permission.
According to Rachel Maddow Show, MSNBC’s rule say:
"there is an explicit employee rule against hosts making contributions like that. You can do it if you ask in advance and management tells you OK. That‘s what I understand happened with our morning show host‘s political donations in 2006 under previous management. But if you don‘t ask in advance for an exemption from the rule, you are bound by the rule."
MSNBC's President Phil Griffin issued statement on Friday regarding his decision to suspend Keith Olbermann.
"I became aware of Keith’s political contributions late last night. Mindful of NBC News policy and standards, I have suspended him indefinitely without pay," Griffin wrote.
But not all News channels are the same. Fox marches to a different set of ethics and standards, one that is unprecedented in the field of journalism.
Over at Fox "News", pundits are free to donate to campaigns, donate to Political Action Committee’s (PAC), their guests and commentators are free to ask for money for their campaign’s, free to ask for donations to PAC’s such as Fox commentator Sarah Palin’s "SarahPAC", Fox commentator Karl Rove‘s "American Crossroads" and "Crossroads GPS", host Mike Huckabee’s PAC, HuckPac, and Fox commentator Dick Morris‘s "Super PAC for America".
At Fox "News" they are free to organize anti-government protests, and free to host fundraising events. Fox anchors are free to endorse candidates. The two biggest owners of NewsCorp which owns Fox "News", Rupert Murdoch and Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, donated millions to the Republican Governors Association, and other Republican front groups.
From the Rachel Maddow Show (video):
"In case it wasn‘t clear enough, this is from Mr. Hannity‘s own website, from his photo album on his Web site. The Web site brags that this is Mr. Hannity headlining a National Republican Congressional Committee fundraiser. That fundraiser reportedly raised $7 million for Republican House candidates. Earlier this year, that took place, Mr. Hannity raising money for the NRCC, $7 million in one fundraiser, $7 million earlier this year."
There is clearly a difference between Fox "News" and everyone else with ethics. MSNBC holds their employee’s to standards and ethics, and Fox "News" shows they are a shill for the GOP that allows their employee’s to donate, promote, campaign and fundraise with impunity because they have NO ethics or standards.
Keith Olbermann donated $2400.00 to three candidates and was suspended because he did not get permission and would not apologizing on air. At Fox "News" its business as usual.
It was announced today by MSNBC that Keith Olbermann’s show. "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" will return tomorrow, Tuesday November 9th.
