Didjya hear about the guy arrested in Michigan with bomb-making materials, a bullet-proof vest and a picture of President Obama in his car? Not many people have.
In September, Richard Scott McLeod was pulled over for speeding in Michigan. The police said he was shaking and sweating profusely which moved them to do a search of his car. What they found got the FBI involved: bomb-making materials, an armored vest and a picture of President Obama.
From the Livingston County Press & Argus reporting:
Sheriff's Deputy Michael Graham stopped McLeod's vehicle for speeding near M-52 and Highview Drive in Leroy Township in September.
Sheriff's officials said McLeod, who was going to a funeral, was sweating profusely and shaking, which led Graham to express concern about McLeod's behavior and his ability to drive.
During that conversation, Graham asked, "Where's the gun in the car?" and McLeod replied, "In the console."
Police said McLeod admitted the gun was loaded and that he did not have a valid permit for concealed weapons.
A search of his vehicle also yielded a military-style bulletproof vest, bomb-making materials, and a photo of President Barack Obama.
The FBI did a forensic examination of McLeod's laptop computer and found information about the famed Hutaree militia group. Members of the Hutaree, as you may recall, were in the news earlier this year when several members were arrested on terrorism charges:
In March, Hutaree, an organization the FBI called "an extremist anti-government militia" based in Lenawee County, captured headlines when the FBI arrested several members, claiming the group had planned to kill law enforcement officers with explosive devices.
Last Thursday, McLeod pleaded GUILTY to weapons charges (carrying a concealed weapon.) He was not charged for the bomb-making equipment or the possession of personal armor. What does not appear clear at this time is whether or not the FBI is still investigating McLeod's connection to the Hutaree or other militia organizations or whether or not he planned to do harm to the president.
He's scheduled for sentencing in early December.
I'm just sayin'...
