I’m not certain I understand the logic – or lack of logic – behind the constant attacks directed against people who disagree with Obama’s policies, or against the people who support Obama. Either we all have an equal voice and opinion on this site, or the Daily Kos has become - or will become - irrelevant as a source for helping shape future democratic values and ideas.
Discouraging dissent will result in a decaying of fresh ideas.
The Republican’s have declared war on all Democrats, especially liberals. Their unwavering commitment to control the soul of this nation demands that Democrats be innovative. We can’t afford to become followers instead of leaders. We have to recognize the importance of every Democratic voice.
I have read a number of comments, written by former members of the Daily Kos (posted on other progressives sites), who no longer feel welcome here. That is disheartening. I joined the Daily Kos because of the divergence of ideas that flourished when this site was young.
I no longer see an effort at inclusiveness in the diary section of the Daily Kos.
Rahm Emmanuel damaged Obama’s brand when he attacked the liberals. So did Robert Gibbs and even Obama didn’t help his cause when he admonished liberals to shake off their lethargy after excluding them from the formation of his policies. Attacking the people you need the most is not an effective policy for winning.
We all need each other.
Our party is in very fragile condition. We have to stop attacking each other. There are millions of democrats who no longer believe in what we are doing as a party. They are ready to walk. We can’t pretend that won’t happen if we keep attacking each other. Corporate America has the upper hand. They have stacked the courts, congress, the media, and every aspect of our lives against us. When our Democratic leaders support them, instead of us, it is easy to get discouraged and want to walk away from a movement we can no longer believe in.
It is foolish to pretend Democrats won’t leave the party if our leaders govern like Republicans instead of upholding Democratic ideals.
And it is equally destructive to believe we can bully people into accepting our viewpoints.
The only way we can build a cohesive front to combat the Republican agenda is to allow all people on this site to express their opinions without fear of reprisal.
The Daily Kos offers us a wonderful opportunity to exchange progressive ideas. Please don't damage that privilege with infighting.
If we fail to stop hurting each other, then we will lose. No matter who is correct.
