Dear Congress, Dear Mr. President,
I read today that the only way you see to pass a tax cut for the middle class is to extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy. In essence, what are currently "Bush tax cuts for the wealthy" will become "Obama tax cuts for the wealthy."
As you know, extending those tax cuts will cost the United States some $700 billion dollars, requiring us to borrow ever-more money to help finance the budget.
So, I'm writing to ask you not to pass the middle class tax cut.
That is, if in order to have a tax cut for the middle class we also have to cut taxes for the wealthy, I'd rather have neither. It would be an unconscionable and I think unpatriotic act, and something that my grandchildren and great-grandchildren will have to pay for, assuming that this country hasn't been completely bankrupted before that.
So, please. No tax cut for anyone. Sure, I could use the extra money. But in all honesty, it's not worth the price. It's not worth the price that current and future generations of Americans will have to pay.
So, I urge you to drop the entire issue of tax cuts. Say "no." Move on. Start working on real job creation. Deal with DADT. Help fix our trade imbalance. Pay more attention to real, serious problems in this nation.
Thanks,
Sincerely,
A. Taxpayer.
