I awoke this morning thinking of Sandy Stroud, my high school sweetie, dead more than forty years in the jungles of Viet Nam.
My thoughts turned to my Daddy, a veteran of World War II, dead now.
As I do every morning, I faced the sun rising over the Rocky Mountains and remembered the men and women honored in IGTNT ... and the ones who didn't die in Iraq or Afghanistan but were so wounded by their experiences that they came home and died. Or are managing to live, suffering.
Then I turned on my computer and found meta diary after meta diary about the catfood commission, but veterans? Not so much. I'm pissed about the catfood commission, too, but ... it's Veterans Day.
Our community includes a lot of veterans. Fine people, doing good work. The big kahuna, Markos himself, is a veteran.
♥ ~ ♥ Thank you all for your service. ♥ ~ ♥
Finally, my thoughts turned to young soldiers and marines in the mountains of Afghanistan, tomorrow's veterans and war dead.
What the hell are we doing? Can you imagine what their thoughts have been if they've had a chance to ponder the recent elections?
Let's bring them home.
Veterans, not corpses.
This diary is for our veterans, not our fights. Please take time to say thanks.
