This should be fun:
Former Michigan Republican Party chairman Saul Anuzis on Friday will become the first major candidate to announce a bid to chair the Republican National Committee.
In a letter sent to national committee members, Anuzis cited the "overriding challenge" they face to retake the White House and the need for the RNC to dramatically change the way they do business, while at the same time assuring members that in seeking the post, he wouldn't "dwell on any perceived gaffes" made by current chairman Michael Steele. Which of course was followed by quite a bit of dwelling:
"My agenda is very straightforward. I have no interest in running for office. I won't be writing a book. It is not my goal to be famous," Anuzis wrote, referring to a book Steele wrote that angered RNC members. Anuzis also pledged a "detailed review and supervision of how we allocate our resources," a reference to Steele's often strained relations with the party's biggest donors.
In coming day we can expect more challengers to Steele to step up to the plate, apparently as soon as Karl Rove and Ed Gillespie decide who should be the next face of the Republican Party.
Now if only a challenge from the tea party wing of the GOP would emerge ...
