Being better than Fox news in not enough for an independent voter like me. I have stopped watching cable news, because all they care about is to stir up emotion so you can watch and buy their ad products. There is no time for reasoned argument because you and others have to sell advertisements. So we reduced the quality of the process so much that useful conclusions are had to come by.
Russert was the last methodical interviewer on TV, and that's why forgive his mistakes. You however rely on stirring up emotion.
Dear Keith,
I understand your objections about false equivalences and I agree with your assertions about how the media critics often bury you and Fox news in the same box. But you must accept that being more objective and more fair than Fox News isn't really such an amazing accomplishment.
Where was NBC news during the Iraq war? Nobody spoke out, not even Tim Russert, who at least was man enough to admit he erred. I used to watch your show, but it has become too emotional to be objective enough. yes it's better than Fox news and sometimes better than CNN, but is it objective?
Not because you don't bring the republican mailmen, and their wannabe democratic imitators, to deliver their message drafted on K street. But because your prosecution and accusatory tone is often precluding the idea the other side might have some valid points.
Why must we liberals be afraid of personal responsibility? Why must we applaud the printing of $600B to jack up house prices and spur momentary demand?
Do you ever wonder whether you give the other side a fair shot? Your answer, we're fairer than Fox news, leaves me unimpressed. You, like many others, are lost in the 10 minute news-between-commercials segments TV affords. You are leading many of your guests to the conclusions you have pre-determined. The people you invite have no time to express their views, because your commercials are coming up. At best, there are two points of view as if there are no third or fourth voices to discuss an argument.
Mr. Olbermann, you are better than Fox news, but please remember you too are selling advertisements, while selling your viewers short, by making deeply felt, but not deeply thought out arguments.
Goodnight and Good Luck
