Surely everyone is grateful by now to be rid of all my Prop 19 diaries, but I did want to share this little ditty here from a local news segment here in California. This link also got some action over at reddit.com.
Even if you are the type to oppose marijuana for recreational use, only an idiot would claim that the plant has no medical value. The fact that marijuana is STILL a schedule 1 drug is absurd; it's like the Jim Crow of government drug regulations. ( LITERALLY, actually: blacks pay the highest price for our drug laws, given that incarceration rates in america for blacks are reminiscent of South Africa during apartheid.)
Just google marijuana and cancer and you'll see how our drug scheduling is purposefully deceitful. Would our elected officials and taxpayer-funded-bureaucrats in the ONDCP/D.E.A. prefer that citizens suffer from cancer instead of getting treated?
You betcha.
It is interesting that women oppose marijuana at higher rates than men. A majority of women at the polls voted against legalizing marijuana in California. Given that midterms were skewed towards older voters, it means a lot of future cancer patients voted against their own self-interest.
It's not entirely their fault, I suppose. They've been lied to their entire lives. And some voters aren't too keen on hearing the truth told to them by us who are half their age.
Bigs ups to Arizona for passing Proposition 203...that one went down to the wire and it's good news to see that it won.
[it's been fun to have helped push the fact 3 weeks ago that marijuana got more votes than meg whitman. I saw that same theme find its way into a nytimes.com article last week about prop 19 not passing. Also cool to see ACLU post a diary here on topic. And despite the knife in back from the idiotic "stoners against prop 19", we look to have barely defeated Steve Cooley (R-Prohibition) for state AG, so medical marijuana is still safe in the state of California...thriving, actually..]
