It has been a while since I update this series. Elections tend to do that to me, get me all worked up,even if all I can do these days is type and make phone calls.
It was frustrating to d4eal with the "leaders" for the campaigns, once I explained I was disabled and could not climb stairs, I was excluded from phone banking locally. After volunteering 4 times I was sent to a location an hour and half away from my home that I could not find. I finally went tot eh national campaign and Voila, phone banking that was virtual.
But this is the gust of the issue in America, we hear disabled, but do not comprehend what it really means.
We all see the wheelchair ramps into and out of buildings, at the corner to cross the street. We see the handrails put up everywhere to lift yourself off the toilet, up the stairs, etc.
Here is what you do not see.
You can not get the wheelchair to use those ramps unless you are so debilitated, you almost can not use it. A scooter to get around and maintain some independence, not until you are so sedentary, you need a power chair instead, because you can no longer get to the bathroom alone. then they charge you 20% for each item.
Medicare is a 80/20 Insurance policy. Part B covers some of it, but now that I am dying, I have more creditors call me then I ever have EVER in my life. I have more left over medical bills now, I will have to declare bankruptcy over and over to keep my self out of debtors jail. My family will be left with an unknown amount of medical bills. I wonder if the congress has this issue with their benefits..... hmmm NO
And yet I see the republicans already going after medicare and social security to fix the budget. I have a thought, make the defense contractors actually PERFORM to get paid. Exercise the penalties for non performance that are in EACH contract, hell at the IRS alone you could get $4 trillion dollars. Just Google "contractor to testify to congress, on poor performance on contract" you get almost 26,000 hits.
Instead of taking out a few 250 and hour consultants, we go after the under 20K a year disabled and old? Yeah that makes sense. These contractors negotiate themselves out of penalties everyday, How about it? Try holding your biggest contributors responsible.
I am in end stages of Interstitial lung disease,(IPF w/fibrosis) my heart is failing and there is no cure. Except to make me insurance and hospital poor.
