The International Federation of Health Plans has published a report comparing costs for various health care items in different countries.
The U.S. tops the list; no surprise. But the surprise is how much more we pay. Examples:
Hip replacement: $13K in the Netherlands; $21K to $75K in the U.S.
Cataract surgery: $1,700 in Spain; average $15K in the U.S.
Nexium prescription: $30 in the U.K.; $186 in the U.S.
Delivering a baby: $2,700 in Canada; $8,400 in the U.S.
No wonder "medical tourism" is growing like crazy.
