That wacko senator from Connecticut again proves that he has nothing useful to do in Washington.
From How Lieberman Got Amazon To Drop Wikileaks
Early this week, after hacker attacks on its site, Wikileaks moved its operation, including all those diplomatic cables, to the greener pastures of Amazon.com's cloud servers. But today, it was down again and mid-afternoon we found out the reason: Amazon had axed Wikileaks from its servers.
The announcement came from Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT), the chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee. Lieberman said in a statement that Amazon's "decision to cut off Wikileaks now is the right decision and should set the standard for other companies Wikileaks is using to distribute its illegally seized material."
There you have it - pressure from a Senator gets Amazon to drop Wikileaks for breaching "unspecified terms of use".
Amazon called them back this morning to say they had kicked Wikileaks off, Phillips said. Amazon said the site had violated unspecified terms of use.
Its a good thing we have protectors of the First Amendment well established in the Senate, otherwise who would be left to protect liberties.
The irony of Amazon dropping Wikileaks seems to have been missed by most, but not by Wikileaks who tweeted a couple of priceless comments:
If Amazon are so uncomfortable with the first amendment, they should get out of the business of selling books.
WikiLeaks servers at Amazon ousted. Free speech the land of the free--fine our $ are now spent to employ people in Europe.
After Wikileaks got back on line through Swedish servers zero hedge points out:
Basically this goes to show just how futile it is to attempt blocking servers in the internet where it takes a few keystrokes to change a client. It also brings up the point of how much further the US will go in its attempt to shut up the internet and ways to bypass such seizures.
In all seriousness it is time that folks in power got used to the internet age. It is no longer possible to keep things secret like in the "old days". The best comment I read through the whole Wikileaks dump is that in today's world a digital secret is an oxymoron. It is about time those in power stopped wikileaks by not doing shit that is bad enough that it needs to be leaked - which is wikileaks' long term objective.
