You know about them... the folks in your community in need.
They don't know or care who is "in power". They're hungry... needy... things have gone so totally wrong for them. Often through no fault of their own. It's life. Some win, some lose.
At our church we donate, monetarily, or through buying gifts for families in need.
I went shopping last week for kids of families who can't provide their kids a "Christmas" and another family came to my attention. We're on it, our church, and I realize there are so many more like them.
Follow me below for the story from hell... a Mom's hell... at Christmas. It's heartbreaking. It's in your community too.
Forget politics. These people know no blue states nor red. They only know need.
I received an email about a family recently discovered by our church. The Mom is a single parent, she recently had gall bladder surgery with complications and subsequently lost her "store manager" job due to those complications. As if things weren't bad enough for her and her kids, the five year old son developed leg pains at the bus stop causing him to collapse right there.
After a work up he was diagnosed with Leukemia. Trey needs to be seen at the clinic at UNC Hospitals once a week. Mom has no car. This is when our church became aware of the situation and dove in. We found they have no washer/dryer. No lamps in their mobile home. No kitchen table, no linens, no nothing. No car. They rely on transportation provided by the university requiring the Mom and Trey to be available at three AM. There is no child care for the kids who are too young to attend school. Grocery shopping is dependent on neighbors who will drive the Mom... she does get Food Stamps but those don't provide many needed items. Our church is lining up folks to help with that, and we are shopping for Christmas gifts for the kids. We're taking shifts to get Mom and Trey to Chapel Hill for his care. We are helping them and will continue to...
How many more like them are out there? How many more people who have such a need? These are profound needs. And these are the folks who slip between the cracks. Except for churches, community outreaches and so on.
Me, I'm totally tired of and over the political "stuff". That doesn't help these folks. Oh, yeah, in an empirical way I suppose so. Assuming these people even know of and understand all the "rules" that go with it all.
Along with all that, folks like McConnell and Boehner don't know from "c'mere to sic em". They wouldn't know what it means to be in need if their lives depended on it. Unless "Boner" visited a town without a tanning bed.
Sorry... this was supposed to be apolitical. * Insert smirk here.*
Seriously, it is beholden on us to help... to be the better angels, to care. Politicians don't do that. I don't care who they are or from what party, they don't care. They are out of touch. They are wealthy beyond belief. They live in another world from the one we inhabit.
Just saying... help those you can... the powers that be don't even get it, so we have to.
And I know you all do. So go get 'em. Don't stop helping in any way you can. Our "leaders" don't and won't.
Merry Christmas.
UPDATE: Not sexy enough?? Hunger is not sexy. Need is not sexy. I don't care about BWD or CC or whatever other alphabet you like. There are folks in OUR country who are in pain. Hungry. Without. Put whatever initials you want to here. There are so many needs.
