"My administration does not negotiate with terrorists...and that includes economic terrorists. The Republicans in Congress are holding millions of Americans and our economy hostage and I will not allow them to further harm our nation."
Imagine how many heads in the Beltway would have exploded had Obama come out and said that? Imagine how the narrative would have been completely changed to putting the Republicans on the defensive had some offensive language been used.
The nation does not need more capitulation to four-year-olds. The nation needs some adults in the room, and that includes some stern words and, yes, perhaps even some hurt feelings.
Meteor Blades was correct when writing in Julythat the GOP's shameless goal is clear: worsen the economic situation for millions in hopes of scoring more seats, so they can cause even more damage to people's lives.
The fact of the matter is that Republicans have twice voted against two massive tax cuts for middle class Americans--first with the Stimulus Bill, which included the largest middle-class tax cut in our nation's history, and again just yesterday, by not allowing the House's middle-class tax cut to get through the Senate.
Why are Democrats not pounding the airwaves with this fact? Why do Dems allow the myth that Republicans want tax cuts and the Democrats want tax hikes to perpetuate? Long term, this myth can only hinder Progressive policy proposals.
The fact of the matter is that Republicans don't want Average Joes to catch a break. They want Average Joes to hurt so that they blame the Obama Administration for their pain; Obama is, after all, supposedly the guy in charge. Republicans also get another bonus out of bringing harm to the Average Joe; they and their corporate masters get desparate workers who are willing to work for even crappier wages and for even fewer benefits.
As Jed Lewinson described earlier today,
President Obama said he "completely disagrees" with the GOP's insistence on extending tax cuts for the wealthy, but he said that given their opposition to extending any tax cuts without including upper-income taxpayers, it was necessary to agree with their demand.
The Republicans are willing to cause large-scale suffering if they do not get their way. In short, they are economic terrorists.
Naturally, language that would actually put the Republicans on the defensive for holding Americans hostage is off-limits for this administration and for the Democrats in Washington. Naturally, we wouldn't want to affect the comity of the Senate and the conversations around the cocktail circuit. Heaven forbid that 300 Republicants might be held accountable for harming the lives of 30 million Americans. :sigh:
I am sick of spineless Democrats who will not ruffle feathers and throw punches. The modern Republican party has become filled with an American-hating, self-destructive and inhumane pack who will stop at nothing to get their way.
They don't deserve compromise; they deserve a spanking and to be sent to their room with their mouths washed out with soap.
